Partner-Led Work

Working together for safe, high-quality radiotherapy

Some of CPQR’s earlier programmatic work is now being led by partner organizations. This includes:

• The suite of 17 technical quality control guidelines to assure optimal performance of radiotherapy equipment and technology and support safe, high-quality patient care. Going forward the Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists (COMP) will lead the review and updating of these guidelines and foster their uptake by radiotherapy programs across the country. • The generation and use of patient reported outcomes (PRO), which is being led by the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology (CARO). CARO will build on CPQR’s initial work to support the consistent use of PRO within specific disease sites for patients being treated with radiotherapy. This included the development of a guidance document and endorsement of five PRO measures within specific disease sites for patients being treated with radiation therapy. • Enhancing and promoting the integration of patient engagement, education and outcome guidance into professional practice across the country. This work to advance patient-centred initiatives will be led by the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology (CARO). Visit the Resources section to access the suite of guidance documents developed to support radiotherapy programs in the consistent engagement of patients and their families at each stage of their care journey.
• Advancing work to use big data in assessing the impact of radiotherapy treatment on patient outcomes. CPQR’s initial work on the Canadian Big Radiotherapy Data Initiative guided radiotherapy programs in adopting this system and preparing for pan-Canadian data sharing. Continued work to collect and analyze treatment plans and clinical data nationwide is being led by the Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists (COMP).
