On September 26-27, 2024, CAPCA hosted a Pan-Canadian Oncology Workforce Planning Workshop with over 30 participants, including cancer system leaders and representatives from various oncology disciplines across jurisdictions. The workshop focused on the oncology health human resource challenges we face and fostered collaboration to explore insights and ideas related to the roles of patients and caregivers, new care models, digital innovations, and emerging roles in the system. Also discussed were recruitment and retention strategies, including education and training, effective retention techniques, attraction strategies, and the importance of data and planning.

The ideas generated at the workshop are instrumental to informing opportunities to help address the oncology workforce challenges in Canada, and will be captured in a Final Report.
