Canada’s cancer care system is under sustained pressure from rising patient volumes and persistent workforce shortages. While innovative models of care have emerged across the country, they are too often developed in isolation and not shared or scaled beyond their originating site.

This study reviewed more than 30 successful innovations — including virtual care, at-home treatment models, and applications of artificial intelligence — to identify the factors that determine their success.

By identifying the specific factors that enable or hinder implementation, this work provides health system leaders and policymakers with a practical roadmap for adopting proven models of care more broadly — helping ensure equitable, person-centred cancer care regardless of geography.
